POLYETHYLENE

Polyethylene is one of the main materials supplied by Antares

Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most present materials in our daily life, is 40% of the total volume of world plastics production. It is a very light material that has a high resistance to chemical agents, water, saline solutions, acids, alkalis, alcohol and petrol.

It does not absorb or water nor liquids: it is only affected by oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid, sulfuric and halogen.

Thanks to its properties of acknowledge and low water absorption, this material is widely used in the food sector and for the manufacture of:
  • Apparatus for chemical industry
  • Boxes and containers
  • Coatings
  • Slides and sliding elements
  • Sliding guides
  • Cutting boards

It is also used as an insulator in the production of:

  • Coating of electric and telephone cables
  • Film for agriculture
  • General construction waterproofing with HDPE geomembrane
  • "Extensible film" and "air bubble film" (or pluriball)
  • Pipes for transporting water and natural gas
  • Coatings

It is normally used with temperatures between 40 ° and + 80 °.

It is an easily weldable material, but difficult to glue, characterized by high impact resistance (even at low temperatures) and low friction coefficient with excellent anti-adherence properties.
